Board Approves 2021-2022 School Year Calendar

The first day of classes for students for the 2021-2022 school year will be Monday, August 16, 2021, according to the 2021-2022 Instructional Calendar approved by the Board of Trustees during the January 19 regular meeting.

Student holidays for the 2021-2022 school year are Labor Day, Columbus Day, Martin Luther King Jr. Day, and President’s Day. Next year's calendar also includes four days as holidays for students and professional learning for staff. District breaks reflect traditional community preferences of a week at Thanksgiving and Spring Break, and two weeks for Winter Break. The last day of school for students is Friday, May 27, 2022, and graduation is scheduled for Saturday, May 28, 2022.

For teachers and staff, several dedicated days have been designated to support professional learning. August 4-13, 2021, will provide foundational professional training for all teachers as well as time for staff to complete the district's required online compliance training. Employees new to the district for 2021-2022 also will attend orientation on August 2-3. Specific details regarding professional learning opportunities and options will be provided to employees.

The 2021-2022 school calendar meets all state-mandated requirements for number of required minutes of instruction and staff work schedules. Two additional bad weather days have been designated on the calendar -- these days are Friday, April 15, 2022, and Friday, May 20, 2022.
The calendar was developed using a multi-layered, committee-based process. Feedback was gathered from parent and community members on the District Planning and Advisory Committee (DPAC) as well as teachers and administrators. A Calendar Advisory Committee met to consider feedback and community expectations and develop an academic calendar that meets state requirements and best supports the district's Aspire 2025 strategic plan. DPAC approved the calendar in November, it was presented to the Board of Education for review in December, and approved in January.
