middle aged woman smilesEMS ISD is pleased to announce Liesl James as the next principal of Dozier Elementary School. With 25 years of experience in education, James brings a strong instructional background and a deep commitment to fostering a positive, inclusive and high-achieving learning environment for all students.

For the last seven years, James has led Midway Park Elementary School in Hurst-Euless-Bedford ISD as principal, where she is known for cultivating strong relationships, empowering staff and students, and leading with integrity. James has worked in HEB ISD for the past 19 years in roles including assistant principal, instructional specialist and teacher. Before that she worked in a private school setting for six years.

“I am incredibly honored and excited about the opportunity to serve as the principal of Dozier Elementary,” James said. “I look forward to working alongside the dedicated staff, supportive families and vibrant student community to build on the school’s strong foundation of academic excellence and student-centered learning.”

James received her bachelor's degree from Concordia University Texas in Multidisciplinary Studies and her master's degree in Educational Administration from Lamar University.

“My passion lies in creating a nurturing, inclusive environment where every child feels valued and empowered to reach their fullest potential,” James said. “I am committed to fostering a culture of collaboration, high expectations, and continuous growth, and I am eager to lead Dozier Elementary into its next chapter of success.”

Beth Sanders, EMS ISD Executive Director of Elementary Services, believes James’s leadership style and experience are a perfect match for the Dozier campus.

“Liesl James is a relationship-driven leader who believes in the power of people and shared purpose,” Sanders said. “Her extensive background in instructional leadership, paired with her passion for student success, will be a tremendous asset to the Dozier community. We are excited to welcome her to EMS ISD.”

Outside of her professional life, James has been married to her husband, Curtis, for 18 years. They are the proud parents of Olivia, who will be a sophomore in high school this coming year, and Ellison, who will be in 5th grade. In her free time, Mrs. James enjoys reading, traveling and watching her daughters participate in cheer, soccer and dance. She looks forward to becoming an active part of the Dozier Elementary community.

The district extends sincere thanks to the Dozier families for their participation in the principal selection process. Input from the family survey, along with feedback and participation from Dozier staff during interviews, was instrumental in helping identify the next leader for the campus.

James will make her transition to Dozier Elementary in the beginning of July in preparation for the next school year. Please join us in welcoming her to the Dozier community and EMS ISD!
