Six EMS ISD Students Compete at State FCCLA Competition; Three Advance to Nationals

Three EMS ISD Family, Career, and Community Leaders of America (FCCLA) students are advancing to the FCCLA national contest to be held virtually June 27-July 1 after placing in the top two at the state contest.

The students advancing to nationals are:

  • Patricia Gamez, Saginaw High School senior - Teach and Train level 3 (placed first at state)
  • Rebecca Fassett, Boswell High School junior - Teach and Train Level 3 (placed second at state)
  • Kyler Turner, Saginaw High School junior - Nutrition and Wellness Level 3 (placed second at state)

FCCLA students from Boswell High School, Saginaw High School, and the Hollenstein Career and Technology Center (HCTC) competed at the State Leadership Conference virtually April 8-10. They connected virtually from HCTC with state officers, attended virtual workshops, and completed virtual presentations in Teach and Train, Professional Presentation, Career Investigation, and Nutrition and Wellness. One student competed in Cupcake Presentation on April 9 in person. 

State Results:

  • Cameron Andrews, Boswell High School sophomore - First place in Cupcake Presentation (this category does not go to Nationals)
  • Patricia Gamez, Saginaw High School senior - First place in Teach and Train level 3 
  • Rebecca Fassett, Boswell High School junior - Second place in Teach and Train Level 3 
  • Kyler Turner, Saginaw High School junior - Second place in Nutrition and Wellness Level 3 
  • Kaitlin Regan, Boswell High School senior - Third place in Career Investigations

FCCLA students competed at the Region II contest on February 26. The students competed virtually or in person, depending on the contest. EMS ISD had six students, and one regional officer, that advanced to the state level.

  • Cameron Andrews, Boswell High School sophomore - First place in Cupcake Presentation
  • Patricia Gamez, Saginaw High School senior - First place in Teach and Train level 3 
  • Rebecca Fassett, Boswell High School junior - Second place in Teach and Train Level 3 
  • Kyler Turner, Saginaw High School junior - Second place in Nutrition and Wellness Level 3 
  • Chloe Wallace, Boswell High School senior - Fourth place in Professional Presentation 
  • Ryan Mayo, Boswell High School sophomore - Vice President of Membership

The mission of FCCLA is to promote personal growth and leadership development through Family and Consumer Sciences (FCS) education. Focusing on the multiple roles of family member, wage earner, and community leader, members develop skills for life through character development, creative and critical thinking, interpersonal communication, practical knowledge, and career preparation.
